Southern BBQ and comfort food near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

One of the best parts of a Smoky Mountain vacation is the food. Whether you're craving slow-smoked BBQ, fluffy pancakes stacked high, or a proper Southern meat-and-three, the Pigeon Forge and Sevierville area delivers. Here are our favorite spots — the places we actually send our guests to when they ask "where should we eat?"

BBQ & Smokehouse

The Local Goat (Pigeon Forge)

A newer addition to the Pigeon Forge scene, The Local Goat has quickly become a favorite for its farm-to-table approach and creative Southern dishes. The smoked wings and goat cheese appetizer are standouts, and the atmosphere is upscale-casual — perfect for a nicer dinner out without feeling stuffy. About 12 minutes from Cubby Bear Den.

Huck Finn's Catfish (Pigeon Forge)

If you want classic Southern catfish done right, Huck Finn's is the spot. Fried catfish, hush puppies, coleslaw, and sweet tea — it's simple, it's delicious, and the portions are generous. Great for families with kids who aren't adventurous eaters. 15 minutes from the cabin.

Bennett's Pit Bar-B-Que (Gatlinburg)

A Gatlinburg institution since 1986. Bennett's does hickory-smoked ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with homemade sides. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, and they have a kids' menu. It's about 25 minutes from Cubby Bear Den, but worth the drive if you're heading to Gatlinburg anyway.

Breakfast & Pancake Houses

Flapjack's Pancake Cabin (Sevierville)

You can't visit the Smokies without hitting a pancake house, and Flapjack's is one of the best. Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and real maple syrup — plus creative options like red velvet pancakes and pecan waffles. The Sevierville location is just 8 minutes from Cubby Bear Den and usually has shorter wait times than the Pigeon Forge spots.

Old Mill Restaurant (Pigeon Forge)

A Pigeon Forge landmark. The Old Mill serves Southern breakfast and lunch in a historic setting next to the actual old mill (which still grinds grain). The corn chowder is legendary, and the fried chicken is some of the best in the area. Expect a wait on weekends — it's popular for a reason. About 15 minutes from the cabin.

Family-Style & Southern Comfort

Mama's Farmhouse (Pigeon Forge)

All-you-can-eat, family-style Southern cooking served in big bowls at your table. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, biscuits — the works. You don't order from a menu; they just bring the food and keep it coming. Perfect for large groups and family reunions. About 12 minutes from Cubby Bear Den.

Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant (Sevierville)

Another family-style option with a slightly more refined feel. Known for their apple fritters (served warm before your meal), fried chicken, and country ham. The restaurant sits on a working apple orchard, and they have a gift shop with apple butter and cider. 10 minutes from the cabin.

Pizza & Italian

Big Daddy's Pizzeria (Pigeon Forge)

Wood-fired pizza in the Smokies — and it's actually good. Thin crust, quality toppings, and a fun atmosphere. They also have craft beer on tap. Great option when you want something quick and crowd-pleasing after a day at Dollywood. About 12 minutes from Cubby Bear Den.

Groceries & Cooking at the Cabin

Publix (Sevierville)

The closest full grocery store to Cubby Bear Den is the Publix on Forks of the River Parkway — about 8 minutes away. Well-stocked with everything you need for cabin cooking, including a great deli section for quick lunches.

Food City (Sevierville)

Another solid option about 10 minutes from the cabin. Food City tends to have lower prices than Publix and carries a good selection of local products. They also have a pharmacy if you need anything.

Pro tip: Cubby Bear Den has a fully stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook — pots, pans, baking sheets, a coffee maker, and all the basics. Many of our guests do a mix of eating out and cooking in, which saves money and lets you enjoy lazy mornings at the cabin with coffee on the porch.

Our Recommendation

If you only have time for one restaurant, make it The Local Goat for dinner or Flapjack's for breakfast. Both are close to Cubby Bear Den, consistently great, and family-friendly. And don't skip the cabin kitchen — some of the best meals happen around our dining table with the whole family together.

Stay at Cubby Bear Den

Our cabin is the perfect home base for exploring everything the Smokies have to offer. 3 bedrooms + loft, sleeps 12, hot tub, game room, and pet-friendly.
